Painting Door Check

My 560SEL's paint is anthracite gray metallic clearcoat (172) but the replacement door check has a standard gold metal color. Since I want it to match the original paint, will spray paint or paint from a can stick to the metal?

Also, is it easy to remove the circular catch that holds the pin through the door check to the door?

Yes, use a solvent to degrease it, prime and paint. Get a one step paint if your are ordering from someone like paintscratch. Priming will help attach the paint to the gold (look) plating

Go over it well with a Scotch-Brite pad to dull the paint that is there. That will give the new paint something to bite into and it will stick. Probably no need to prime since it's already painted.

I'm assuming it's painted gold now, and not made of gold.

...or "anodized" gold...in which case, you can paint over that without prep.

He,he,... tell me about it.
I've been waiting for 4 years, to see if they'll blow up.
