Help! Need ignition unit for W140

Hey Guys,

I am stuck real bad with this. I have a 95 S600 that is killing me slowly.
The one bank of cylinders went down, and comes back when I swap the ignition control unit over from the other side.

I am hoping by someones good graces that all the favors I have randomly done throughout my life, can help me find someone that has a spare unit they will part with for reasonable $'s.

I bought this car inexpensively from a family member and I can't afford to keep it maintained now.

The part # I need is 013-545-7032

Thank you in advance for even looking.
Ken Christman

google is your friend

try googling that part # - I found 2 sources
MercedesShopper on eBay offering buy-it-now for $895
Programa in Florida link shows they rebuild the item - best to call those folks. I've dealt with them on a climate control - very reasonable, warrantied rebuild on a Climate Control unit for my '92 300SE.

Thank you for the responses so far. Is there anyone that replaced one, that turned out to not be faulty, and they now have a working used one on the shelf in the garage.

That would be an ignition coil - he's needing an ignition control unit.

Thanks for checking Ron.
I too was choking on the $895. The part new from Phil (mercedesshop.com) is $2100- if you really wanna puke.
It is literaly a box held in with a couple screws, and 4 plugs.
Thanks for checking what you had around.

Why don't you search the junk yard?

First, come to terms with your 95 S600. It's ALREADY killed you.

With that out of the way, you can elect to keep it alive as a hobby car, or junk it like everyone else.

Your motor actually has 3 ignitiion controllers - the 3rd is a small "contention" unit that is supposed to resolve differences between the two 3L six cyl motors that make up your 120. More than often, your problem results in misfires across the sequence, and will ruin the motor. Results are usually a hole in a piston, bent conrod, busted valve etc. Most 120's have died this way.

If you elect for option #1, then go get TWO units from the junkyard, try Potomac. They may or may not have them - this is a common problem with 120s.

I saw a lady have a real heart attack one day about 4 years ago when she was given the repair bill over one of these - I think it was about $21k or so. Ambulance came and everything. She had purchased the car for "a steal", and proudly rode it around for about a month. After her son had put $5k ghetto wheels on it too

I thank everyone for their responses so far. I am still looking for the part, but not able to locate a S600 in a junk yard. Does anyone know of one?
