I am having my mechanic rebuild the four speed transmission. He has been trying for weeks to have Mercedes send him the synchros (dealer only part) and they have sent the wrong part twice, from Germany.

Does anyone know where I can obtain a resonable reconditioned/rebuilt 4 speed or better yet a 5 speed manual transmission?

What part of the syncronizer is he looking for, I can't imagine taking more than a couple days for anything. The last part that I needed which had to come from Germany took less than a week.

I have a number of 240D syncros in stock from years ago when we used to do a lot of manual transmissions.

It does not seem we are having problems with Mercedes as much as it is the dealer personnel here in Jacksonville.

It is a 716.210 Transmission

We need the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th synchronizer rings.
We need the reverse idler gear not on the main shaft, in the rear housing, they have sent us the gear on the shaft.

There are 4 bearings required. We have the 0069810225's and the 0029815612. We need the other one.

We have the gasket set.

I am trying to work with my mechanic on the phone to get these numbers.

What other information do you need or I have obviously messed up?

The syncros seem to be 123 262 01 34 and 124 262 00 34. There are two of each, 1st and 2nd are the same and 3rd and 4th are the same. The gear seems to be 123 260 06 25. The bearings vary by transmission number (I could get this from the chassis number also).

I don't have any of those late model syncros. The part numbers I have listed are for the brass "blocker" rings. The syncros are actually an assembly of different parts but the "blocker" rings are what are usually refered to as syncros.

Thanks for trying Steve.

Any other suggestions.

Were the numbers I gave, the numbers that you have been waiting for? If so I don't know what to say. If they aren't, I would check with the dealer on those numbers. If you wish the numbers for the bearings give me the rest of the tranny number or the chassis number.

Hi Steve,

Yes, those are the parts we are looking for. The dealer is just not able to get them (or their people are not requesting the correct part).

The dealer wants $1400+ for a rebuilt 4 speed. Are their better alternatives?

Since it is looking like I will have to get a rebuild, does anyone know where I could get a 5 speed?
