My 95 has the ashtray that you push in to open and close, but it will not stay closed for long. I removed the assembly and see that there is a lever and pin on the side that runs in a track on the ashtray and is suposed to catch on an indent to keep it closed. It works better when it's out of the car, but there seems to be something missing. Is there a spring or something that attaches to the lever arm that keeps it in position or a spring? I looked at the lever and pin and there is no wear, I thought the pin might have worn down over the years. I notice this problem on alot of MB cars on ebay that are for sale. In photos they always have their ashtray doors open. Any Hints?

Come on, no one else has this problem? Half the E300's I see have the ash tray hanging open. Anyone know what to do?
