there is a large piston behind the front pump in trans and either this piston doesn't work [because of busted lip seal] or the reverse clutches are completely worn out[if this is case you would have been experiencing long engagement times when going from park to reverse]one more possibility there is a lot of trash in valve body and reverse valve won't move.
