'05 E320 Pollen Filter
 

Has anyone ever removed theirs and can tell me how?? I don't see any way it comes off. I feel like a dummy asking this for something has has got to be so simple. :o

I beleive you have a dust filter (1 large) and the typical carbon activated filters (2 small).

They are #540 & 310 respectively.

On my W210 the dust filter (commonly called cabin fitler) is accessed by removeing the glove box. The carbon filters are accessed by removing the decorative panel above the passengers knee space. Both are held in place by a simple clip system and when the door is remvoe the filters just slide out..

The carbon activated filter appears to be located in the same place as the W210.

Parts 530 & 540 on my car look just like in the picture, but it is outside under the hood and I thought it would come out by removing part 530, but that just may be too simple and you would be right about the glove box. I will get up in the morning at about 530 when it is not 110* in the garage and give it a look see.

Thanks for the help there friend, I really like doing what I can as for as service on the car, but I will take it in for all the other service checks for stuff I can't do for myself like tranny fluid change or differential fluid change.

I dont know the W211 layout, but from the diagram I have a feeling the dust filter is acessed from the engine compartment. It appears to be on the back of the blower housing and up so high I doubt it could come out from the passenger compartment.

That's the way it looks to me, but I be darn if I can get the cover off. I removed the screw that bolts it to the fender and still no go. I figured it just would lift up and off, but it would not come off that way.

This is the only real regular service function I have not been able to do on the car and I am rather puzzled to say the least why it seems to baffle me. The fuel filter is the easist to change I have ever seen on a diesel, oil & filter is also very simple as is the engine airfilter. But this pollen filter is about to whip my behind. Also the dealer only mention one filter for the system which make me wonder if they have ever change the filter(s) in the system.

There are tabs on both sides where the filter housing attatches to the firewall plastic. Use a screw driver and bend them out of the way while pulling up on the housing. Pull out your old filter and install the new one. You're done.

That sounds like four arms are needed for that procedure. :eek:

I have tried pulling up on the back section near firewall w/o sucess, but I didn't pry out on those taps on the sides. It looked like the top piece just slide down inside. Will try that tomorrow. Thanks for the help. I'll let you know if I get it out.

Well I had PMed a friend on the VW TDI forum that is a MB tech and he told me I had to pry/pop the two side tab's also, so to make a long story short it took about 30 seconds to take out, check, and reinstall. :D
