Tailgate closing assist-300TE-1993
I had the carpeted tailgate cover off of my daughter's 300TE last night to track down an issue with the rear window defroster. I saw that a plug was disconnected. This morning I looked at my Repair CD and the wiring diagram shows that this plug belongs to the "tailgate closing assist". The tailgate on her car operates just fine. What is this feature about?:confused:
Thanks, Tom |
tailgate assist
It is a motor that pulls the tailgate shut. If you lower the gate until it justs rests on the latch, the assist motor pulls it shut without you having to push it or slam it. As you know, the tailgate can be closed just fine without that feature. I don't know why it's there, but it's oddly cool imho.

Thanks for the unbelievably fast reply. I guess the one on this 300TE went bad and someone decided that they didn't care to pay for its replacement.

i think that there is a relay that goes to that plug.
