Occaionally, the engine on the 560SEC stalls out when driving very slowly and applying the brakes. According to the tach, the idle speed is about 450 RPM which seems very low. There is also a small exhaust leak, would this effect the idle speed?

You should have the idle speed actuator and the overvoltage relay checked. That idle sounds too low.
Also, after repairs, always check the fuel mixture.
