87 300e alternator capacitor value
1 Attachment(s)
I bought a rebuilt alternator for my 87 300e and forgot to take the capacitor off the back of the core I returned. I can't seem to find one anywhere. Anyone who has a used one wants to sell me an alternator to go with it. I've resigned to just buying one from an electronics store but I can't tell if the cap was 2.2 pfd or 2.2 mfd and 110 volts. I took a picture of the original alternator core before I returned it, but I can't tell from the picture if it was the funny u symbol for mfd or a p for pico. Does anyone know? or have a spare?
Thanks, Bob Kopicki |
The funny u, actually the symbol for mu, is for microfarads. pf would be picofarads, or micro-micro also 10**-12.
Are you having a problem with radio static or alternator whine? |
The alternator had a bad bearing and was making a lot of noise, it was charging fine. I haven't run the car since I replaced the alternator since I've been waiting to get a replacement capacitor and also get my A/C back together since it is apart waiting on a new compressor.
I can't tell from my picture of the original alternator if the funny u is a u or a p. I am aware of the mfd vs pfd relationship, I just didn't know which was on the alternator. If I were a betting man I'd put my money on the 2.2 mfd cap. Thanks for the reply. Guess I'll be running to our electronics store to get a 2.2mfd 110v capacitor. Thanks again, Bob Kopicki |
