w126 resistor underneath brake booster..
what is the function of this resistor? smoke keeps coming from this general vicinity. I dont believe it to be the wiring harness near it...(car is a 90 300SE)
I did a search but the only results that came back were for the blower motor. anyone? Thanks Kris EDIT: accoding to ******** that is Beru Radiator Fan Controller/Resistor; For Auxiliary Fan and currently we have the aux fans wired to run 100% of the time. (temp switch on a/c dryer is jumpered.) merely a temporary testing thing nothing permanent. could that be the cause of the smoking and whatnot having it constantly running like that? or is it something to do with the radiator fan? |

Not sure of the name or function of the ceramic connector near what you may be refering to. But the resistor group (in my '84 SEC) is a metel box with a swiss cheese appearance. Inside the box are a series of coils. These are the resistors. Heat is produced by these resistors depending on the blower motor speed. Alot of heat. I caution you to keep this area free of all debris. Could cause a fire. Dry leaves, pine needles, etc. will collect here over time. I found out the hard way. I ended up replacing the resistor group and blower motor too. Fortunately for me I had the hood up, idling the car with the blower on when the fire started. Dry leaves.
The smoke you see may be a warning. Use a flash light, a long handle screw driver to move things around and a good shop vac with a narrow snout attachment to clean real good. |
i think we figured it out. i've remove my "hot wiring" of the aux fans...used a air compressor and shop vac to remove most of the debris..tryed to remove the fuse box to get more access..ran the car for a little and no smoke, so im inclined to believe it was the aux fans being on constantly.
here is another question: there is an 80a strip fuse in front of the brake booster (m103 based w126) what does it do? |
