w202 '94 ignition question
on my '94 c280 (w202) with a 104 engine, I am having the infamous "key won't turn at all" issue, I've looked at all of the available threads, (which detail removing the tumbler from a 124.) to no avail. I've got the ignition/steering column removed, and my assembly looks nothing like the one found on the threads (no holes for the "self made tool") I'm gonna have to order the tumbler/key from the dealer, but I'd like to know if anyone has successfully changed a lock on a '94.
Any help appreciated.(from the most invaluable MB forum on the 'net!) Thanks Dave

Dave,
I have recently done this replacement (tumbler WAS replaced only 1.5 yrs ago!). Depending on if you can still turn the key to pos I (then you are lucky) then you can follow the instructions on this link; http://tech.bentleypublishers.com/thread.jspa?forumID=3&threadID=20922&messageID=214522#214522 I paid $$$$ 1.5 yrs ago when the key won't turn at all. Good luck. KC |

No Problem Dave. I have searched through different forums extensively and got a lot of great suggestions from others as well. That's why we are here.
Before you drill, you may want to try others' suggestions i.e. vibrations, shakings etc to see if you can turn it to Position I (the Acc position), if you can, then you are saving yourself $$$ and time. The "tool" that is mentioned in the schematic will cost you about USD 90 plus shipping but forget about it. I used a wrench with good grooves and a rubber grip mat that people use to open jars. Follow the instructions then you can replace the tumbler in < 5 minutes. Good luck. KC |
