AC Center louvers
Just got the evaporator changed in 1995 E300 and I'm having problems with the center vents they always stay open and blow cold air the only way to close them is mannually. Could it be that there is something that is not put together right like a inside door on the air box. Would appreciate if somebody could help with a vaacum line schematic.

This is not good. The default on the center vents is CLOSED. Therefore, if they are open all the time, the door is probably binding or the vacuum pod linkage is not connected.

No the door operates fine but the only time it closes is when you close the vents on the dial inside the car

The door operated by the vacuum pod is not the same door operated by the dial.

Just wondering if I would be wise to get a vacuum line diagram because I dont really look forward to taking the air box back out

95 E300D 124.131 AC vacuum routes and dash overview
Quote:
(I don't have a reference to how it should feel/operate but I think that due to bad vac elements the blower is venting mostly into the dash rather than to the cabin because it sounds like it is blowing hard but doesn't come out strong but not ready to tackle it yet) Anyway, hope this is what you need.

Can anybody please tell me what controls the inside door on the center louvers. I know that on my 87 300D the center vents will only come on when the temp is real hot and the AC has to cool down the car to a normal range when that range is achieved the fan will gradually slow down and eventually the air will only come out on the side vents. On my E300 I recently replaced the evaporator and now the only way to get the center louvers to close is to either shut off the vents on the manual dial or to shut the climate control completly off, and there is newer any warm air that will come out of the center vents even if you have the temp dial on 85 degrees there is hot air on the outside vents and cold air on the center vents. Could there be a temp sensor that I need to check for this door to operate on its own. Also the fan will gradually slow down and speed up as it gets close to the desired temparature so I know the climate temp sensor is ok it is just a matter of getting that door to operate when it has to. Look forward to get some info on this.

Warm air will never come out the center vents if the system is working properly.
The CCU tells the vacuum manifold which pods to actuate, which in turn controls the various doors. If your center vents will not close, the door could very well have been left disconnected from the pod, because the default position of the center door is closed.
