m103 engine sounds

a buddy of mine just got a 300SE (m103 3L) and his m103 sounds way more...windy..than my m103 2.6L. now i know theres some difference between the two displacements but I didnt think this is one of them.

Take a Listen and see if this is normal or something is busted.

Oh yes smog pump is going to get junked soon:

Are there differences in the air cleaner?

It sounds like there is more induction noise on the top video. Are the air cleaner housings and plumbing the same?

Also that was some nasty squealing... loose belt?

That squeeking sounded very familiar, turns out mine was coming from a dry/worn out bearing on the smog pump pulley (which can be changed). I can't find the info here but do a search. The bearing was ordered from bearings direct, no more squeek

my buddy who has the SE was thinking of just buying the shorter belt and bypassing the pump instead of removing it. he figured that he would need to plug up something on the exhaust manifold or somthing. I dont know. In all the posts i've read about removing the pump i've never heard of anything like that. is there something like that ? is it possible just to bypass the pump like that?
