Dashboard lights

1987 260E
This is my first Mercedes, where is the switch to turn on the dashboard lights?
All the other lights work but the speedo, etc is in darkness.

Little button on the instrument cluster is the trip meter reset button as well as the dimmer control for the dash lights.

Yeah, and if they still do not work, its probably a faulty rheostat. They are known to fail on these cars... at least they were common on the 85-older W123s and W126s.

Does this work for the 190E

I have a 1991 190E that has no dash board lights also. It is also my first MB. If the trip knob is also for the dash lights then what is the round switch on the center console?

rotating switch on transmission panel with window switches is the poor MB design for a speaker fader switch probably. If it rotates up and down and has a wheel for rotating, it is the fader switch. It is usually not reused when an aftermarket stereo is installed. it then just wastes space. I removed mine and replaced it with an on off swithc for my daytime driving lights I added. A hazard light switch (red, like onother side of panel) will fit in the hole for the stereo fader switch
