I'm curious about the best way to correct my situation and would like some opinions. I have a 91 300CE-24 that had been lowered by the previous owner. The front is about a 1/2" too low.

The car runs on 195/65 15" tires on standard MB Wheels.

The front tires rub on rough roads while turning. Not much, but enough to bother me. I would like to raise the ride slightly, about 1". I like to lowered look and drive, but I can't have it rubbing the tires.

My guess is the previous owner just replaced the front springs with smaller ones. The rear ride height seems to be original.

1. I have to buy new tires. Should I just change the size?

2. Is there a spring pad option?

3. Should I hunt the jukyards for an original spring shock combination and start over.

Any other options? Thanks again for all your help.

Chris

If the car is that low (rubbing original size tire and rim)I would assume that the original owner had the springs cut. I suggest to either buy the originals from a junkyard or if you like the lowered look check out eBay or the classifieds at mercedesshop for Eibach or H&R lowering springs.

Check your spring pads. The rubber bushins att he top of the springs.

Witht he wheel off, you should notice some little bumps on the pads.

1 bump = the thinnest pads at 8mm
2 bump = 13mm
3 bump = 18mm
4 bump = 23mm

If you have the thinnest pads you should be able to change them out for thicker pads.

I have the set of OE Springs from my 1992 300CE if you want to buy em I'll sell em to you. My mech lowered my car for me using the neuspeed springs I bought. He ended up using 2 bump front and 3 bump rear pads, and the car sits perfect, and only rubs if I hit a heavy dip in the road at high speeds. Otehr than that there is no rubbing.

Your car might just need some thicker spring pads, so check this first, though labor in changing the spring pads will probably be the same as labor involved in changing the springs along with the spring pads.

Spring pads

Thanks for the quick response, I'll check the spring pads this evening. If that doesn't look like it will do the trick, I may take you up on the springs.

The car rides nice and the alignment seems fine for now. The only rubbing I get is with the wheels turned hard right or hard left. I'll let you know what I find out.

out of curiosity, who don't you pst your wheels ize and tire size.

If the wheels are 8 inch width, they might be causing the rubbing. also tire size can cause this too.

Keep us posted.
