Guide rod bushing it was !!
Put a new guide rod bushing kit in the right front of a 126 today, and,,, what a difference. Took out all the clunking and banging. Thanks to all who helped me get pointed in the right direction. BTW,,, the hardest part of the job was getting the old bushing out of the bracket. Even at that it took about 1 1/2 hours.
