I pulled a speedometer from a 300SE

I was at the bone yard yesterday and pulled a speedometer from a 1984 300SE

The part numbers are
front: 126 542 73 57
back: GR 203/1/146 K=11288

Is there any way to determine the rear end gear ratio that this speedometer
is calibrated for? I am going to swap my rear end for a 2.47:1 unit and I am hoping that this speedometer will be for that ratio.

Thanks!

So the bone yard was wrong.... It had 1984 painted all over it

Does anybody know the rear end gear ratio for this car?

Actually the W126 300SE/SEL was made from 1988 to 1991.

It came out in 1986. 1988 was the first year for US spec.

OK, Ok... can we stop arguing over the year of the car and find out what gear ratio this speedometer supports?

I want to put it in my 300SD (lottsa laughs as it is a 160mph speedo) when I install the 2.47:1 differential I have been sitting on for a year.

Will this work, or do I need to find a 420SEL with a 120mph speedo?

Thanks,

Joe
