1992 300CE- Tranny--and I need help tonight..please

I'm intrested in purchasing a 1992 300ce. The current owner states that he is having a problem with the tranny- it wont go in reverse unless cold, its making a rear wheel noise, needs a fuel distributor and antenna motor

How much will that cost to fix? The tranny and the wheel are most important.

The price hes asking is good- but is it more trouble than I can afford?

Thanks,,,, Im going to see the car in the morning.

Sounds like to many serious problems - shouldn't buy it without a pre-purchase inspection and some solid estimates. A fuel distributor is an expensive item on that car, transmission a couple thousand, etc.

Coupes are nice looking cars but don't be stupid. A rebuilt tranny would be $2000+, a fuel distributor $600-$1000. Have it checked out and then you'll know where to bargain from.

Common sense will dictate....... I just want that model of MB so bad.

With the tranny problem... thats a total rehaul? what will it taketo get it right/... and that wheel noise, does that sound like its locked?

I love our CE, but others are right.... you don't want to pump 5k into one, when you should be able to buy a good one for that price.

I was told by a tech that a tranny overhaul for this car was pretty routine and around $1800+ but this was several years ago. Everybody drives different but he thought a typical service life of this tranny was 150m-200m. Getting an inspection can only help.

I HAVENT SEEN THE CAR YET... got any other ideas on a good coupe

I was supposed to see the car today, but I'll see it in the morning instead.

I'm real concerned about the tranny. We had a 1967 250sl, which needed major work- we did it and after a few years we sold it( not because I wanted to) We waited almost a year to get one part for the car.

I dont want the same experience. However I just fell in love with the older coupes.
Do you have any suggests on an affordable, under 6000.00 coupe.?

Thanks
