00' CL500 bad headlight xenon, repair or replace? C215
Hi,
Wow it has been a while since I have been on here (now that i have a car that seems impossible to repair on my own)... Just the other night my headlights turned on and i noticed a reddish color appearing from the driver side xenon headlight. The next night my headlights came on and the same light now appears to not be working. When manually turned on it will randomly come on in a bluish color for just few seconds then turn off. My question is should I attempt to have someone repair this or just find the best deal i can on a new/used assembly? Also should i attempt replacing this on my own (i successfully installed W124 euros' in the past)? BTW, i have already searched "xenon" and unfortunately people are so un-detailed about their titles it seems impossible to find detailed yet concise information on this topic... Thanks for your help!

It sounds to me like the xenon bulb is dead. Have you tried taking the bulb out from the good one to test the one that went out?

WOW-
Sometimes the answer can be the most simple solution. Swapping the bulbs worked. Can i buy a replacement bulb at an ordinary auto parts store or do i need to order it? I am assuming I should replace both at once? Thank you for reminding me of the most obvious answer! |

Click Buy Parts above and call Phil before 2pm our time on Tue and tell him what you need.
It will more than likely be on your front door step when you arrive home on Wed evening.

doesn't sound like a bulb, rather a ballast problem. but as suggested, first change
the bulb from left to right (and vice versa) . if the same problem manifiests even with the bulbs switched, then it is likely the ballast. if the ailment moves over to the passenger side, then it's the bulb which is the culprit.

I agree with you raymond - I think when he swapped the bulbs the side that previously was dead worked again. This should point to the bulb being bad.
If this is the case - call Phil - I don't think you'll find the xenon bulb at your local walmart/auto parts store.
