Vin Decoder

I have tried the russian vin site, but had no luck with it, even tho the car is a euro.

vin: WDB12604412005078

anyone who could help me figure out why it wont work, or can through some other way decode the vin to find out all the options and such that it has?

Double check the Vin# to be sure it is right. Are you sure it is? Is that a Euro gray market VIN# you posted? Something doesn't look quite right to me about that one, if it is a US spec car..

You have other options available to you, also.

Get a Vehicle Master Inquiry at the Mercedes Benz dealer through a parts dept. guy or a service writer, if you can find one to co operate, and decode the report for you. These MB Net reports are free. All dealers can get them. Just not publicized.

You can call 1-800-FORMERCEDES and ask for a free accounting copy of the Window sticker that was affixed to the car's window when it was in the showroom.

You can write (politely) to the Mercedes Benz Historical Archive in Stuttgart, and send a copy of the title proving the car is yours, and ask them for a copy of the factory build sheet.

Be sure to ask for it to be the one IN ENGLISH! They are 3 or 4 pages long.
Will arrive back in less than a month, normally.

absolutely positive its correct. It's on several places on the car, plus the carfax report matches the info on the car. And it is indeed a euro 500sec grey market car.

Similar problem but not a Euro car

My 82 300D Turbo has the VIN WDBAB33A2CB000125. I'm sure it's correct and it was on the title belonging to the original owner when I bought the car. The funny thing is that everywhere I have an opportunity to use the VIN it comes back unrecognized. I subscribed to the online EPC from www.startekinfo.com and it doesn't recognize the VIN. I tried to Russian site and they claim it's invalid also.
I did send an email via the classic center on the Mercedes Benz web site and got a short reply back stating that the chassis number is 123133.12.00012. Does that mean I have the 12th 300D turbo diesel made? Anyone have an idea where I can get look this up or should I pay the $25.00 to the classic center for one of those reproduction window stickers?

I entered your VIN in EPC but got no Datacard, sorry!

Looks like it is not working for Euro cars.

EPC will work for euro models, at least it will if you have that facility. Data cards start somewhere in the 80's though and I'm guessing by that number 005078 that yours is early 80's. Probably too early for a data card.

ran serial numbers above 79 and it came back with as a 1982 German 500 SECs ??? Ran 76 ' below didin't work but 75' did result in a 82 500 SEC. So car is a 1982 if that helps.

i also need help in decoding my vin. I've tried the russian site and i get this:

Datacard for VIN WDB1240234A099009 is not found
1) VIN was misspelled in the request form;
2) VIN was erroneously read from vehicle body or documents;
3) VIN is not of an original vehicle and was forged by criminals;
4) The vehicle was produced in late 2005 or 2006, and is not included yet in our database

My car's vin is: WDB1240231A099009. It is a 1985 230E Euro model. I hope someone can find some data regarding my car.

It just boggles me that my 1979 300TD's vin returns an entry from the russian site and yet my 1985 230E doesnt. Oh by the way, I've checked the vin, and i believe this is correct since it is the one registered on paper from the first owner.

Thanks for any leads.

I ended up calling the Mercedes Classic Center and they mailed me a copy of the data card for my car. It took all of about three minutes. Don't have the number handy but you can get it from the Mercedes Benz USA web site and looking for the Classic Center.
