Seat repair - "big patch" - your thoughts
Leatherique has some great products, and I'm sure their Crack Filler would do the job, but, I already have a tear.
So, I was thinking of just getting a 18 inch square patch of leather and stiching it over the existing seat. Is this unreasonable - what;s the down side? I really do want to keep my heated seats working. Is there an adhesive I could use that wouldn't cook with the seat heaters? Is 3M 5200 adhesive something I should consider? Thanks for you thoughts and suggestions.

The bottom seat cushion has the tear
The bottom seat cushion has the tear, the back rest seems to be in fin shape.
The stitching would hold it in place, but I think the glue would add to the appearence and comfort, as things (material) will not move as much. Am I being reasonable. I have not heard others on this site discussing a "big patch" am I off base? Thanks

Can you post a pic of the tear? IMO a repair from the underside would look better than a large patch in plain view.

A Picture may help - seat tear
The picture shows one tear, some stitching coming un-done and cracks just waiting to tear.
Thanks for your suggestion. Can I patch the tear, without removing the seat cover. Or is seat cover removal - reasonable? Thanks again.

Go on e-Bay and buy a vinyl cover for a hundred or so and replace the bottom piece. You will be the only one knowing it is vinyl and it will not only look good but it will feel better than a patch.
Hope This Helps!

I have had mixed results with the Leatherique products. From your photo, the tear is in an area of greater stress. Using Leatherique's procedures, you would first have to clean the area with their "rejuvenator" before inserting/gluing a piece of chamois into the cut or open area and then back-filling the void with their crack filler. For me, it did not give good results; the "rejuvenator" softened the leather in the cut area to the extent the leather was weakened; more crack filler had to be added. I cannot know if I would have had better luck if I had not used the "rejuvenator" before repairing the tear, i.e. repair tear first, then use Leatherique's procedures. My eventual remedy will be to follow through on my enquiry to World Upholstery & Trim www.worlduph.com and purchase a replacement kit for the driver's seat leather covering.

The covers arent difficult to replace. What about swapping drivers for passengers and/or getting one from a junk yard.

I would remove the cover to do the repair. After seeing the picture, I would say a repair is possible and would be functional but not pretty. Get some seat covers, a new seat bottom skin, or a replacement seat from a parts car (are the springs good on the current seat?).

If you got a small tear in the perforated insert area what would one use to glue some backing -fiberglass cloth -That would not be a hardend result?
rubber glue is the only thing i can think of |
