There is confusion here ..
The key words are lenghten the right [ that will bring the front of the wheel in toward a more foward direction] and shorten the left [ that will bring the front of that wheel out from being too far in to a more foward dircection] What I meant by turning the rods in the same direction is if you wanted to lenghten a rod, you would turn EITHER side in the same direction..if the threads were the same on each side , this would not work and they would have to be turned opposite. Same goes for shortening..same direction.. .but, in your case we want one shorter and one longer[ left/right respectively] So opposite turns. Gets confusing.. the trick is to look at the way the threads are rotating on the rod..you can see if the threads are going into the shaft or coming out of the shaft ..going IN results in shortening, coming out results in lengthening.. So, you know how many turns you made on each and what direction, so get back to zero and LENGHTEN the right the same amount as you SHORTEN the left.. sorry for the confuse... On the SW play, they allow up to 1" at the circumference as Normal.. |

THANKS AGAIN for the great help, especially Arthur. I zeroed the 2 rods, then turned them so the right and left are now adjusted as described. Took about 1/2 turn on each. Still not happy about the rip-off alignment, but this is a small city and you can bet that this saga is gonna get repeated over and over and over......

I read this thread with great interest. I also adjust my tie rods accordingly that brings the SW to center, which took about 3/8 turn.
By the way, my shameful local alignment shops claimed they couldn't do much about it. There is one actually claimed that my car, which never involves in any accident, has "metal fatigue" that need expensive body shop job.
