I have an M103 motor in my 190E.
The red cap for the ATF dipstick seems to have some sort of lock or something??? Can someone please tell me (the idiot) how to get the cap off please??? Thank you, Mike McKinney |
The lock is hinged from the top.
Pull out from the side and up on the latch, then pull straight up on dip stick. You will understand after you see it out. Kinda like those beach umbrella shaft lengthen locks. In the book, if u have one. |
Don't feel bad...I looked in the manual and STILL couldn't figure it out.
So I played with the black plastic thingy around the dipstick until I found that it unclipped from the top and hinged at the bottom, thus, unlocking the dipstick. |
Be careful to avoid getting dust or other contaminants onto the dipstick when you replace it. The transmission is very sensitive to this type of contamination, hence the lock. A lot of folks wipe the stick off with their fingers to avoid any problem.
