Fitting new air flow sensor - is it just a bolt on?
Hi guys,
Its time to replace my air flow sensor on my 190E 2.5-16. That is the big metal thing with the round dome plunger. My question is, is it straightforward? I mean do i just take the old one off and bolt on the new one? Do i have to adjust anything? I know i have to change the the little tower that you adjust the C/O mixture with. Or would i be better off taking it to a bosch specialist who have all the tools? Any advice would be really great! Thanks |

"It's time"? .... Not sure what your symptoms are, but not much goes wrong with this item other than a worn potentiometer. Is it symptoms of that failing that you experience? On the other hand, plugging-up, leaking, uneven distribution, etc of the fuel distributor, or problems with the EHA are more common.
Anyway, if you replace the airflow meter, you will have to calibrate the mechanical offset of the vane, as well as the pot position. If none of the rubber in the vicinity has been replaced recently, I would include that too. Steve

Thanks for the reply. Yep my pot is worn out. Im assuming that they come pre-adjusted from Mercedes. This is an original new one from MB.
Rubber boot is new. |

The pot used to be available separately.
Look hard and you may find one.

From what I can tell the meter's plunger movement and adjustment has to be made after it is installed, manual shows adjustments and they dont look fun to me and I like DIY projects. For something that crutial to proper operation of so many other sytemss I would have a MB Bosch mech do it, probably not the dealer, but a good Bosch indy. I replaced the fuel distrib on a 90 190E and it involved plunger adjustments that were detailed and crutial to operation
