What is the difference between a Long Block and a Short one for 560 engine?
I show them on this website:
http://www.mercedesengines.net/products.asp?cat=36 The Long Block engine look awesome, do you agree? |
cdplayer
Try this www.mercedesengines.net
Then click on #1 Click "engines" left column and choose "gas" Chose your engine type Compare photos of long block to short block |
Yes cdplayer, it's the same site I posted. I was asking about the difference in performance.
|
Its the same engine.
Long block (+$3,200) comes with heads. Short block doesnt. |

Suppose I installed the long block to the existing engine, will it improve the performance?
|
depends... if you put the old heads on without a refreshing(rebuild them) it will probably be the same..
A long block comes with everything except the accessories (alternator, AC compressor, hydraulic pump(if equipped) ) |

You'll replace your old engine w/ a long block, ie, block, heads, intake etc.....
Thus, you yank your old engine, pull the accesories/exhaust manifolds off, put them on the new engine and re-install. Jonathan |
If you are going to replace the engine, might as well replace it with an M119 - more HP, better economy.

Unless something is critically wrong with your 560 engine, replacing it won't result in any performance increase. In fact, you're talking about buying a 560 US-spec and replacing your presumably euro-spec 560 engine with it - a horrible idea. The photos shown are an m119 I believe. Not an m117, it clearly has dual cams in the photos. If you're looking for performance updates, then don't spend that much on a US-Spec 117, put the money into a euro-spec m119 5.0. |
Is this thread for real?

Thanks for the link
Canoga park is in the valley I mist admit I never knew the difference thought a long block was a longer engine :scream: So, there goes that myth Found this so guess its true WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE AN ENGINE, CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FOLLOWING ENGINES, SHORT BLOCK, LONG BLOCK AND THE TURN KEY ENGINE. TO START WITH ALL ENGINES ARE THE SAME DIMENSIONS, SOME PEOPLE ASK IF A SHORT BLOCK IS SMALLER THAN A LONG BLOCK, THE ANSWER IS NO ! THEY ARE THE SAME SIZE, THE REASON THEY CALL IT A SHORT BLOCK IS THAT MANY OF THE PARTS ARE LEFT OFF SUCH AS HEADS, ROCKER ARMS, LIFTERS, OIL PAN, ETC. IN OTHER WORDS THEY HAVE BEEN SHORTED FROM A LONG BLOCK, HENCE THE NAME SHORT BLOCK. TO HELP CLARIFY THE THREE I WILL GIVE YOU A LIST OF WHAT IS INCLUDED IN EACH ENGINE. SHORT BLOCKS HAVE THE FOLLOWING INCLUDED. LOWER BLOCK, CRANKSHAFT, CONNECTING RODS, PISTONS, RINGS, MAIN BEARINGS, ROD BEARINGS, CAM BEARINGS, WARNING ONLY PURCHASE THIS UNIT IF YOU HAVE A QUALIFIED ENGINE SPECIALIST WHO CAN PROPERLY CLEAN, REWORK, AND ASSEMBLE TO A COMPLETE RUNNING ENGINE, IT WILL REQUIRE NUMEROUS NEW PARTS, AND LOTS OF TIME NOT RECOMMENDED FOR THE WEEKEND WARRIOR !!! LONG BLOCK ENGINES HAVE THE FOLLOWING INCLUDED. BLOCK, CRANKSHAFT, PISTONS, RINGS, MAIN BEARINGS, ROD BEARINGS, CAM BEARINGS, CAMSHAFT, TIMING CHAIN, SPROCKETS, LIFTERS, PUSH RODS, ROCKER ARMS, CYLINDER HEADS, OIL PUMP, OIL SCREEN, AND GASKET SET. THIS WILL ALSO REQUIRE A SKILLED ENGINE SPECIALIST, AND HOURS OF TIME CLEANING THE FOLLOWING PARTS THAT YOU TAKE OFF YOUR OLD ENGINE TO REUSE ON YOUR NEW ENGINE, SUCH AS OIL PAN, TIMING COVER, VALVE COVERS, INTAKE MANIFOLD, CARBURETOR, WATER PUMP DISTRIBUTOR, ALL IGNITION COMPONENTS, IT WILL REQUIRE MANY HOURS OF CLEANING AND ASSEMBLY, PLUS IF YOU SCREW IT UP IT IS YOUR PROBLEM !!! :D |
