I have an E430 1999, and a month ago it started counting down for service time; I changed the oil but still the message that saying "service due now" is there. How can I reset the message?
Also, after I turn on the car, which is giving the service message, as soon as, I push the break it says defective lamp. How can I figure out which lamp it's talking about?

The reset procedure is in your owners manual under FSS. Or, you can search here. Make certain you close the door when you attempt it.

To find out which light is out, turn all lights on and have a friend walk around car while you step on brake and usee blinkers, etc. Dont forget reverse lights too.

Ignition key in position #2. Press the "O" button on the left side of the instrument cluster twice. The time/distance remaining until service is due should be displayed. Switch the key to the off position. Press and hold the "O" button. Switch the key to position #2 again. After a few seconds you should hear an audible beep, and the display will change to indicate the reset process is complete. It may take more than one attempt.

I had the same problem earlier in the year. Most likely if happen when you step on your brake it either reverse or brakes. With mines none of the bulbs was blown but when I closely examin where the lights go in i noticed that even though I twisted in the light bulb it was still lose causing one side of the metal connector on light bulb casing not to touch the main housing. Pull out the metal connector on the casing a lil bit and hopefully this fixes your problem.

Well, I tried to check the light yesterday, and I noticed that the break lights in the rear are not turning on when I break. So, I disassembled the light and noticed that there is no lamp and instead there is a metal. It looked just like they didn't install the lamp in the factory; however, this doesn't make sense to me, and I am begging to think that the car had accident and they fixed the back of the car and did not install the break lamp. Is this possible?

Assuming you are in the USA, there is one set of lights in the rear that are not used here.

Pull all the others and check the bulbs and also look for corrosion on the connections.

dont forget the bad bulb could be the left tail light in "foglight" mode too.

Well, there is one set that is not turning on, and I guess that's the one that are not installed here in US; however, I figured that another set that when I break should go on, only one of them turns on. I took the lamp and the base of it and put in the other slot below it and it turned on. So, it's not the lamp or its base which is the cap that lamp goes in it. Now, I am wondering if there is a sensor or something that is burned out.
