I was wondering where the injection pump filter on a 78 240 D is located. I know what the pump itself looks like. I just don't see a place for the filter The repair manual I have reads as follows "If no oil flows from the check bore, unscrew the filter and add engine oil up to the check bore.". They did not include an illustration with the istructions.
There is a bell shaped housing on the top of the injector pump that I tried to remove. I did not try to hard because I was afraid it might not be meant to come off. Also strange is the fact that my Performance Products catalog does not have an ijector pump filter listed in it. Is my Chilton's repair manual wrong? If so what manual should I buy. Please help I am clueless. |

"If no oil flows from the check bore, unscrew the filter and add engine oil up to the check bore.".
This phrase applies to pneumatic governed pumps, used on all MB diesel motors till 1974 and 240Ds till 76 (in the US). The 300D in 1975 started the use of the mechanically governed pump which made it to the 240D with the introduction of the 123 body (1977 in the US). The mechanically governed pumps are fed oil from the engine internally and do not need any oil maintenance other than oil changes.
