If you mean the EZL ignition module....YES
|
Why you would want to install one I'm not entirely sure.. There is one installed on one of my cars...does nothing for power, nothing for economy but sure does a Number of caps and rotors..about 1/2's the life of the things :-/

Basically tuners like MSD's to increase spark. They open up the plug gap and with 9mm wires, advanced timing, boost or NOS see a benefit. They also run high flow exhaust and intake mods. You need higher fuel, air and flow ratios to need race rated spark that helps prevent fuel fouling the plugs.
Without the other mods, as jhodg mentions, they just eat ignition parts. Mercedes do not have tuner or an aftermarket parts following 'cause the engineers kind of know what they're doing. Others can't do things better. |
Just recall that these "tuners" you speak of are dealing with low-tech American iron.
Your Mercedes has all the ignition it needs, as it's a quality car. It probably even still has the sticker warning the stock system can kill you. Save your money for transmission and HVAC repairs. |
low-tech American iron? there is not a hole lot on the motor in my car that didnt come out of like the 60s the car itself is built good. but compared to a low tech American car from the same year its a dinosaur under the hood. Slapping on a bunch of sensors to 1960s tech is not all that great. I just got the car to drive back and forth to work and figured some thing that cost $70,000 would have been built good enough that 115,000 miles on it would still be like a new car. I just wanted to know if i could put my msd box on it to help with the idling problem.

slapping an MSD on a Mercedes to fix an idle problem is just a big ugly band aid. Find out what the problem really is and fix it correctly.
Properly cared for these cars will go 200-250K before Majors are needed...more then likely is your car is suffering from lack of proper/timely maintenance. Jonathan |
Have you checked MSD's website? www.msdignition.com From what I know, the 6 series is the most popular, but requires a distributor, and says in the instructions that it will not work in distributorless cars. They do have digital boxes, but I think it would be a nightmare to get their computer to deal with the original mercedes computer.
My opinion would be to replace the plugs with quality replacements (check the gap), check the plug wires, and make sure the ground wires are clean and tight. Also do a search for idle hunting, might be an issue with a dirty MAF, or the throttle body. Chuck |
