W124 front rotor removal problems.

Hi,
I've just moved to Houston, TX and need to replace the front rotors on my 92 300E. I usually do this kind of work myself but I can't get them off the hubs. The problem seems to be the 2 pins on the hub (ABS type), I don't have the tools to remove them.
I have 2 Brembo rotors and brake pads already to go, does anyone know a good shop in Houston that has the equipment to do the job for me using my parts?
Thanks,
Colin

Did you remove the hex-head bolt that holds the rotor in place?

Yes

No comprende "2 pins on the hub". All 124s are ABS type. It sounds like it may just need a good whack with a big hammer.

agree with hammer..... you replace them anyway... probably not even a big whack.

There are 2 "dowel" locating pins joining each rotor and hub. The screw came off no problem. I sprayed the rotors with PB Blaster and tried using a crowbar and also tapped round the edge lightly with a hammer on a cloth, that didn't work. If I was back in Georgia on my own property I would whack them with a big hammer. Trouble is I'm in an apartment complex in Houston at the moment with a strict no car repair policy! I had to sneak out this morning to a quiet corner to work on it. I've done a bunch of rotors in the past and never had a problem, they usually fall off.

Install one of the lug bolts by a few threads before wacking the back of the rotor with a small sledge hammer in several locations. Rust is likely holding the rotor to the hub. Once you remove the rotors wire brush the rusted areas on the hubs and apply a light coat of Never Seize to avoid a similar experience in the future.

I'll try that next weekend.

I just did this with my 92 300 TE.

Once you remove the allen screw you REALLY hae to bang hard from the back with a hammer. Those pins you are referring to are not holding rotors. Bang em off, clean up the spingle with a brush once you've done this. Spray w WD40 or oil wipe spindle b4 you put the rotor back on.

Use a big C clamp to carefully compress your calipers. Be careful with the pushing the sensor pin into place - lubricate first, makes it much easier - too much pressure pressing that brake sensor into place and it's easy to break..

Look at your brake hoses while you are down there and make sure they look good and are not dry rotted or worn.
