Newly Accuired Euro Spec 500 SEL

Hello everyone I was hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction and tell me what I need to adjust, replace or repair to get my new car running correctly. When you start it up and it is in park or neutral it has a hard time idling and it puffs out some black smoke and it has a strong smell or fuel. When I put it in any gear it will die unless I keep giving it gas. It is drivable but I would prefer not to until I find out what may be the problem. I had to drive it home and ran it like this on the freeway and it seemed to run somewhat fine. It was short on power and it would hesitate some before passing. You are more than welcome to email me directly at pkepneriv@yahoo.com if you have any idea on what this could be or what I should look for. Thanks for all your help!

This is a common problem. Use some fuel additive to clean out the system and just always put your foot on the gas at start up and keep it there while the engine clears out the excess gas. I spent a lot of money trying to fix this problem on mine and never touched it...but I got used to it and the car was totally reliable for years after I adjusted my driving habits.

Sounds like a faulty warm up reg...but if the car is a Euro there is no telling exactly what was added to the fuel system to get it to pass emissions/DOT w/o having a look.

well, least I don't have this problem cold...

mine starts up by itself & fast & strong

does however start w hi idle
maybe someone teaked it?

idle goes down when warm & idles spec in drive so its not really a problem

Do have to do the gas on warm/hot starts though.

If its also doing it at operating temp
wouldn't think wur solely but it could also be ailing

sounds like the fuel injectors could use cleaning as Tom suggested

My euro sat 4 years so I have a bottle of techron conc in it
though I don't have any fuel or power issues
its smooth & strong w no smoke

My main irk is the hi idle start

could be I still have vac leaks in the wur
adding more air?

I have to change more of them

My current project is new wires dis cap & rotor

Funny thing is I still can't find my icv
I show pics of the engine & no one can see it

I;ve looked where it should be few places
don't find it...

yuo could clean your idle control valve & throttle body & all fuel areas,...

what does black smoke mean?
think its not burning up the fuel well

good luck
