Our cruise-control seems to work intermittantly. Turning off the car, seems to reset everything.

The vehicle in question is a 1988 W124 300TE wagon, that has been swaped with a 1995 C36 engine.

In order to make everything work, the Electronic Accelerator and ABS is from a 1995 W125 E320 wagon.

We can "set" the cruise-control, accellerate/decellerate at will, and cruise control can be turned-off manually or by touch the brake.

However, once turned-off, we cannot turn-on the cruise-control without restarting the car.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,
:-) neil

PS: there are no codes showing in the MB diagnostic module.

I meant ABS & Electronic Acclerator from a 1995 W124 E320 wagon, not W125.

Thanks,

Noted some more symptoms.

If I turn on the headlights and then use the cruise-control, cruise-control will work for the duration of the trip.

Is there any reason why cruise-control would be dependent on the headlights being turned on?

Remember, this is an 1993 E320T cruise control transplanted/wired to work in a 1988 300TE.

Could my mechanic have wired into the wrong circuit?

Thanks in advance,

:-) neil

Neil,
Interesting problem. Here's a loooooong-shot....isn't the cruise control very finicky in terms of what bulbs are used in the tail lamps? Have you checked to see what you have? Maybe there's a difference in early vs. late W124 wagon bulbs?

I'll have check those bulbs. I did change all of them out with supposedly the correct Euro ones from Randy Steel at EPS Parts, but I don't remember if I started getting intermittant cruise-control problems when I did the bulb change out.

I did install a new rear tailight assembly, and the new assembly had the rear foglight socket fully wired & operational . . .

Time for a little test . . .

:-) neil
