Is it possible to replace this little hose without remomving the pump or thermostat housing. Mine has a little crack and is weeping, but not leaking. I'd like to replace it, but am not thrilled with the idea of removing a water pump.

Yes! I did it. The trick is get the hose from the dealer (less than $10). The aftermarket ones are a little bit thicker/stiffer. Drain the coolant and then cut the old hose and remove the hose clamps. Get new hose clamps.
Get the new hose and try to stretch it as much as you can with your hands before trying anything, then cover the hose completely with vaseline (don't ask), inside and out, maneuver the little end first, wiggle, push, pull, scream, cry, swear, beg. It will pop right in. You are done!
Warning: Once you cut the hose, there is no point of return. That opening is very, very thin but it is possible, the money you save will overweight the pain you will endure.
Good luck!

It goes to show, if there's a will theres a way. Great tip on replacing the bypass hose. If you can't get it done without removing the water pump, then get a new or rebuilt pump. I got my water pump done and it fought me all the way taking it apart but went back together rather easily. Good luck. You really dont want to go into the water pump if you don't have to.

J.Hidalgo is absolutely correct about which hose to use, especially if you're going to attempt to replace this hose without pulling the pump. You can also coat the hose with coolant. Be sure to wear protective gloves if you coat it with coolant.
