87 420 sel creeking noise from front suspension
i have a creeking noise similar to a rusty door hinge only louder at the left front lower control arm area , after having someone push down repeatedly on the left front to bounce the car and listening with a stethoscope it seems to be coming from either the eccentric bolt bushing or the guide rod to the lower control arm connection but i also suspect the coil spring itself as the noise resonates from it [ lower base plate area and spring itself ] when bouncing the car, it also has a slight racheting affect when driving as the suspension moves up and down , has anyone had this problem before? i have a lot of experience at repairing cars but i am stumped as to what part is the problem at this point. any help would be appreciated .

Brian had a similar noise that turned out to be upper control arm bushings. I eliminated the possibilities by having someone bounce the car and I sprayed WD40 around areas and waited to see if the sound disappeared. There was no obvious torn/worn bushings, so this helped in the diagnosis

TX76513 , thanks for the response , the upper control arm bushing at the end of the torsion bar is new, and i'm sure the noise is coming from the lower section of the suspension ,
thanks again Brian |
