Ok so the C-class base is plug and play? Looked like Rik had corner gaps that had to be filled and his mini visor overlaped his dome controls and wouldn't lay flat.
Your install looked like it had a smaller corner gaps and mini visor layed flat?

Here is the original mount on an auto dim S-class mirror.
via the mirror buttons? As in the homelink buttons? Hahah good joke man, i guarantee that wont work out for a whole bunch of reasons:
A) The homelink system is pretty isolated from the rest of the mirror circuitry
B) The pushbuttons are momentary contacts, so you would have to use some relays
C) There is no wires coming from the push buttons, they are soldered directly to the circuit board, you would have to do some precision soldering to get that to work.
D) Even if you were to overcame the a-c obstacles, take a moment to read the homelink owners guide and you will see that to program/clear garage codes from your mirror, you have to hold the outer two buttons for 30 seconds. So basically that would render your homelink useless which is 80% of the reason i did this mod to begin with.

Yes, the C-class base was plug and play. I dont know if/why rik has bigger gaps than me

There is an auto-dim (electrocrhomic or EC) 124 mirror, we made the mirrors (OEM), I believe they started around '89. I don't know if they were available in the US but we manufactured and shipped a lot of them to M-B in Germany. I have one I can take a photo of, the one on my 124 is a prototype BMW mirror we put on a 124 mount, looks better IMO than the 124 which had a switch on the chin. There is also a plug-and-play wire harness, plugs in-between the 124 overhead console and wire harness to add the mirror wires, I'll try to find it and get a photo or part numbers.

Yeah those Gentex mirrors were ugly, but i suppose they at least matched the generation if you are some sort of era-purist

and they are cheap, as they were available on most domestics of that time and the base is a simple swap. Search ebay for the Gentex-100 or an autodim mirror from a 95 Orvis edition Grand Cherokee

Why do you think I made a prototype with the BMW mirror?
Also, the top photo is not an original 124 mirror, somebody apparently glued a 124 socket to the back of a US mirror. I suppose it works. The wiring in the 124 goes through the mount also.

Well i dont think anyone knows what your talking about when you say "prototype with the BMW mirror." Perhaps you should post some additional details or pictures.

chuni, that looks exactly like the Mopar mirror I have but I glued a lug to the windshield to make it work. How is the Gentex attached to the 124 mirror post? How do I remove the original mirror from the post?

pmari, thanks for the link!

Thanks,
Sixto

It's a ball and socket. Grasp the mirror and torque it. It will pop out and it pops back in. Try not to gorillaize it, a slow torque that makes it slide out is better than a jolting pop. If the ball stalk is the same size(which I bet it is) it's plug and play. Otherwise you may have to switch ball stalks (no biggie just have to split the cases and swap ball stalks)

Here is what the OEM will look like after you torque the mirror/case off of the ball stalk and mount.

The original arrangement has a ball on the post and a socket on the mirror, the Mopar/Gentex arrangement has a ball on the mirror and a socket on the post. What's plan B?

The ball on the OEM stalk is held in with a phillips screw. If you remove it, will it recieve the mopar?
Shoot a picture of both if you can.

Done!

I didn't want to rip into the console and have to buy new wood and switches.
I installed switches on the mirror instead.
