oil pump
88 300se
hard to change ? where is it located ? when idle my oil pressure seems to low ..thought i shoulg change my pump to be on safe side |
The complete oil pan must be removed.
Takes a good MB tech 6-7 hrs.. |
It's a PITA!
|
Bearing clearances are also a factor in oil pressure. How low is the pressure at idle? Does it rise to peg the gauge at 1500 rpm?
|
Considering the fact that MB oil pumps are virtually indestructible, I wouldn't take on a job like that unless I knew for sure it would solve the problem. If you're working without a lift you can multiply the PITA factor by ten!
|
BTW, what makes this a hassle is that you have to raise the engine to get the pan over the coss member and you also have to disconnect some of the steering linkage.
I bet your pump is fine. |
How many miles? Very unlikely it's the problem, if there even is a problem.
|
when idle its about 1.5 on the gauge .. 190k miles
i got a engine lift and tons of tools |
barton, 1.5 bar is approximately 22 psi ... which is fine at idle. If the oil pressure increases to 3 by 1,500 RPM the oil pump and gauge are working fine.
|
What does your owner's manual say it's supposed to be? 1.5 at idle sounds awfully good to me.
|
i just thought it was low ..seemed low .. i dont have a manual its in storage from when i moved .. from the sounds of your posts i guess its ok then
thanks fellas |
