These correct turn signal bulbs for W124 ??
 
I was going to upgrade the turn signal bulbs to match my new headlights and tail lights.

I was planning to get Silverstar turn signal bulbs, these are supposed to turn amber when you signal but have a blue look about them when they are off.

I always thought that the front turn signal bulbs are 1157A and the rear ones are 1156A (A for amber, for the clear turn signals). I have these in right now (at least for the front).

But these new silverstar turn signal bulbs (1156A ST and 1157A ST) have a wattage listed 27W and 27W/8 W respectively. They also are supposed to replace the 1156A and 1157A.

But, the correct wattage for a 300E (mine is a 1990), is supposed to be 21W and 21/5W (for the front signals).

Will I be damaging anything or is it still in the safe range to use these higher wattage bulbs?

And I always thought that 1157A (fronts) and 1156A (rear) were the correct bulbs. If these new bulbs are the replacements for these, then have we all been using the wrong higher wattage bulbs????

21W AND 21/5W is correct.
Higher wattage will not affect fusing, but may cause the lamp failure light to come on.
Give it a try and no problem as long as you don't get the lamp failure indication.

so you don't think the higher wattage bulbs to melt or burn the socket??

pmari, the bulbs look good. How long have you had yours? can you pull it and check the sockets please to see if there are any issues?

MBNZ, could you provide your brand, source, and price paid for the clear corners? I've had no luck at all with "Depot" off-brand and want to try another. They have poor fit (have "lost" 2 on left side) plus lamp sockets also fit rather poorly. Thanks!

It's kind of funny how many people think there are American equivalents to European bulbs. It's apples and oranges, guys, and 1157, etc. have no place on a European car, same as P-rated 75-series tires don't. Stick with what Mercedes engineers designed the car around.

Why no place ????

As far as I know, 1156 / 1157 lamps are fully interchangeable in form, fit and function with their European equivalents.

So please explain !

Been in since july this year. I do 50/50 night/day driving. Sockets and cheap clear corners look fine.

I can't remember how much I paid for them, but they are like 5 years old now. I have had no problems with them falling off etc.

I have some crystal clear ones (make is KS) with matching headlights (make is Eagle Eyes - 6 pin). I have never installed them, they are brand new in the box. I was going to install them, but never got around to it. I bought projector ones now, so I am going to sell them.

If anyone is interested, please let me know.

The headlights are Bosch (got them from a guy in Germany off ebay $225 with shipping) and I'm running IPF 70/90W in them with stock German white osram fogs.

I had cheapo depo crystal clears and I didn't really care for the look. Which made it OK when the drivers side decided to remove it'self @ 90MPH (glad it missed the windshield:eek:)BTW I still have the passenger side if anyone is interested and sends ups to me, it's yours.

The corners in the picture are a cheapo knock off, white corners. Kinda like the post W124 facelift corners, but without the orange reflector.

I think all of the after market china stuff has fitment problems. I enlarged the groove (where plastic tab grabs the metal of the car) with a file on this set. So you can actually hear the light assembly "snap" into place.

The strobing 3rd light kit comes from http://autolumination.com/1156_1157.htm "THE NEW BRAKER FLASHING BRAKE LIGHT LED SEQUENCER CONTROL MODULE"(about 1/2 way down the page)$5.99 EA (compared to $20.00 on ebay)
You have to use a LED (1156 3rd brake light bulb) with this module. The mod is real easy. Your 3rd light power supply and ground wires run below in the trunk. This is where you put the strobe module and a load resistor. You need the resistor so you don't get the lamp-out waring light. You can find 1156 super bright (40 or 45 LED's) 3rd lamp bulbs and resistor cheaper on ebay than the site I linked to. To make it even eaiser you can use 3M wire taps with female push connectors http://www.parts-express.com/webpage.cfm?webpage_id=3&CAT_ID=39&ObjectGroup_ID=403&raid=1&rak=scotchlok Then it's plug and play and easy to remove.

The flashing 3rd light is real attention getter when your tail gated. A slight tap
of the brake pedal gets it flashing. Of course the real A$$ holes ignore it after the 2nd time, but it then serves as a prelude to a good smoking:D That gets them off the bumper 98% of the time:cool:

I was watching some headlights from a seller in Germany also, I'm thinking he's the same one you used.

Anyway, love the look of your headlights, just gotta get rid of my stock rectangular old ones ASAP.

Ok, maybe I'll have some luck with the 3rd brake light assembly?
