Valve stem seal/guide issue????

I have a 2001 E320 4Matic wagon, (purchase 9/06 w/52Kmiles) with 62k miles now. All documentation for dealer service from first owner. No oil usage, Mobile1 (5w/40). I move the car dead cold from the garage or another place and it runs about one minute or less and park it, then later on in the day I'll start it and see the puff of smoke. On several occasions in the last 9 months I have noticed this bluish/white puff of smoke from the tail pipe upon start-up. Is this something that is know to exist on this engine, is it a fluke, anyone have any info or experience on the matter. The dealer (car under StarMark) stated something to the effect that MB doesn't allow for a leak down test under the warranty guidelines. Is something rotten and is this the begining of a slippery slope?
Thanks, Dennis

If that engine has a problem.........it WILL use oil.

A leak down test will not give you an indication of bad valve stem seals. You may be able to check for a bad valve seal at the seat. That's a bad valve which would cause a dead miss, not a puff of smoke on restarts.

Update on issue: The dealer did a leak down and compression test w/printed results. Everything was WELL within spec. The explaination, which I agree with and understand is; when the car is first started the FI system sets up in a rich mode until a certain temp is reached. This rich mixture along with any oil that may be in the cylinder just sits there. Since the car only moves from the garage to the street, (engine run time 30-45 sec.) then sits for several hours then on restart I get the puff of smoke. Now, when I go through this same motion I go down the street one block and turn around and park it....no problem on restart....I'm satisfied, and NO oil consumption between 6K mile oil changes. :D Dennis
