This '86 190E has a 5-speed, and it gets a light, not too loud, clunk when letting out the clutch and gears engage sometimes. I notice it when accelerating. Also, when the car is loaded (3 passengers and 1 driver, maybe 700 lbs.) I notice that car yaws or twists a very small amount when letting out the clutch accelerating up to highway speeds. Are these symptoms of anything serious? Are they related?
Both seem to come from the rear end.

From your description of the problem, I would have the links in the rear suspension checked. If the bushings are worn it can cause what you are experiencing.

Had an '84 5-speed with clunking like you describe. Turned out to be one of the rear shock's top mounting bolts was loose. Go in through the trunk and check the fasteners.
