Vaccum Element Rapair Kits
I just joined this forum a few days ago and have spent a lot of time reading several of the threads. I must say that there is a wealth of information here for all of us DIY's. I can only say I wish I had known about this site years earlier. It would have saved me many (hundreds) of hours of figuring things by myself using the skimpy information available in the Chilton manuals and the somewhat "difficult to decipher" descriptions in the MB Engine and the Chassis/Body Services Manuals for the 107 Series cars.
I have a 1983 380sl which I bought from the second hand owners in 1991. Since then I have a long laundry list of items that I have done to the car some of which a had MB indy repair shops do for me, and others which I did myself. Needless to say the car is now in better shape than when I bought it, but is still far from perfect. I still have a list of items to tackle... On my "to do" list is the replacement of the dash and all the vacuum elements, however I can't seem to find who sells the repair kits. It seems that the website that many of the posts refer-to is no longer working. Does anyone know where I can find these or will I have to buy the elements? Thanks!! |

In the off-chance Phil doesn't have them, I know you can get the diaphram kits and/or individual components from George Murphy, perfanalysis@comcast.net , + system drawings and install hints/tips.

Don't do a repair on the dash vacuum elements. You've gone through hell to get the dash out and access these things, do you really want to do it again? Get new ones and install them. Yes, they cost more, but removing the dash and heater box isn't anything I'd want to do twice. |

The repair kits work great and are a good affordable alternative. They can be purchased from:
George Murphy Performance Analysis Co. 969 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Suite 258 Oak Ridge, TN 37830 865-482-9175 9 am to 5 pm ET M-F FAX 865-482-9175

Thanks all for your inputs. I will call George. However, is there any reason to believe the repair kits my not be of good quality? I certainly can understand ScottinSoCal concern, and I certainly do not want to have to redo this job...

Personally, when I did this job on my '90 124, I chose to use new pods. It is not something you want to have to do again, sooner or later.

I have done quite a few the longest repair just over three years - so far so good. It's just a matter of economics, save where you can for the fix that has no repair option.
