Knocking noise at start up.

I have a 1990 300SE and experiencing some wierd nosie while starting it up.
The moment the key is turned and the car starts to crank there is a horrible knoking sound comeing from where I think is the center console or passenger floor area. The nosie continues about 5 seconds and then just fades away.
Is there a problem with the drive shaft? Transmission mounts? or something just loose?

if it goes away as soon as the oil pressure built up i would be really concerned. otherwise it might be something hitting underneath due to a bad mount or something. you can take apart the oil filter to see if there is any metal in it but check underneath first.
