86 560 sel

i just got this 560 sel and i had a few questions about it. it has 75,000 original miles, but it has a rough idle. when i take it out of gear the idle smooths out. also the outside temp gauge doesn't work. and the sunroof only goes up about 1/4 in. and there is a clanking noise from the drivers side rear and the rear sags a little. i got a good deal on the car so i would like to fix it up and keep it!all the help that can be given would be helpful
thanks

This forum has a wealth of information and it has saved me tons of money. My suggestion is to make use of the search tool and research your issues. Also consider obtaining a repair manual or cd. Finally, be more specific with your concerns, be patient, and a knowledgeable forum member will reply.

I believe that this is a good info forum..

Possibly the fact that you asked 3 separate questions on 1 post kept people from answering.

To start with, when you say a rough idle..how long has the car been sitting before you purchased it? Possibly the fuel has caused damage to the injection system? Has there been any tune-up work done recently?

You can always send me a PM on a specific problem..1 at a time.

The sunroof problem is common on the 1986-87 W126 cars, Mb issued a bulletin on that problem 20 years ago. The lifting angles break & cause havoc..repairs can approach $1k

Another cause of rough idle can be the vacuum lines...these lines are now 21 years old and they tend to get brittle and leak around the connections causing a roughness in the idle. Other causes for the rough idle could be in the ignition department....plugs, wires, etc. The car idles better when out of gear because when in gear the extra load brings out the worst of any problems.

Probably best to stay with whatever your owner's manual specifies....I can't remember the plug type that came as standard equipment. You can search this forum for all kinds of info on plugs and tune ups...it's all there.
