Thumbs up European mirror for 210 wagon, no blind spot

I just got my European mirror for 2003 E320 wagon. Old driver's side mirror was leaking. It's self dimming and heated. Expensive options that I don't need, especially with dealer MSRP for mirror at $700; that's just for the glass. The German mirror does have the heated feature.

I have a contact in Belgium and he got me the mirror fitted to the car as sold in Germany and probably everywhere else except the USA. The price of the mirror was 62 Euros plus shipping. Photo is below.

The mirror is great. You no longer have a blind spot. The part of the mirror to the left of the dashed lines is different than the rest of the mirror. I think it's aspherical. You only notice the part to the left of the dashed line is different when a car is in your blind spot because now you can see it.

To bad USA dealers will not sell it. Part number is A2108100721

I like that. Is it only for the driver's side or is there a passenger side version too? Also, was it just the glass or was it the glass with the backing plate?

If it works well, it'd be worth doing.

It was the glass with backing plate, so it fits just like the one that came out, only it does not have the electrical connetor for the auto dimming feature.

I don't know about the passenger side. If your dealer has a part number for the German mirror for the passenger side that is not available in the US then I'd say they have one for the passenger side too.

I believe the same glass fits the W 203 as well.
What was involved in changing it ?

Installed aspherical mirrors on my C280. There's a seller on eBay that has them.

It does take getting used to since the "objects are closer than they appear" is very true. However, there are no blindspots and once you make the mental adjustment on the perspective, safe lane changes are guaranteed.

With a hook tool you release a spring at the top and it pulls right out. I got mine out no problem but had difficulty getting new one in. I have a friend who owns an MB shop and he snapped the new one in in about 15 seconds. I'm pretty sure it's easy but their is a certain technique to install it.

Is there a version for the W124's? Would a set of mirrors from any left hand drive european country work (Germany or France, for instance)?

Years ago I installed such a mirror glass in my '69 280SL on the passenger side: I had become used to it from my other cars, but the SL didn't have one. I got an aspherical mirror from my friendly Peterbilt dealer and had a glass shop cut it to the proper size. Works great! As funny stuff happens though: Years later, I browsed thru a junk yard and found a genuine aspherical mirror in the case for the driver's side. I have no idea what model it came from, but it fits and has the anti-glare coating.
