Torque Spec Question
Good Day All;
A quick question about torque specs. I am replacing my oil pan because it is dented. I do not want to over-tighten the bolts, or squeeze the gasket too hard. What is the recommended ft/lbs or NM torque spec for the pan fasteners. I want to say 8nm or around 5.75 ft/lbs. This is an inference based on a search in the forums on this site. This is what I believe to be the ratio for the Transmission pan, so do you think I can apply it to the Oil pan too? Any advise or suggestion would be welcomed. The trans pan torque is 7 nm, about 5 ftlbs.

Thanks-An addtional question.....
M.C. Doc;
Thanks for your reply. I feel privileged to have you reply to one of my posts. Incidentally, I saw the links to your recent race. Congrats. Thanks for torque spec for the Trans pan. Is the spec for the motor oil pan the same? I wanted to change the gasket and replace the oil pan. It is slightly dented. Not enough to restrict oil flow, but the dented area is beginning to rust. Now I just need to practice adjusting my torque wrench to the correct setting! I am sure you hear this all the time, but thank you for moderating the forum and providing much needed and appreciated expert advice (and the occasional opinion too) This forum has helped me a great deal in the short time that I owned a Benz. In fact, the posts have been indispensable in reaching my model # decision when I was looking to purchase an 'older' Benz. Thanks again, James 79 300CD 234000mi (My First Benz-And I Love It!) |
