Door locks & Wiper question
Can the door locks be replaced easily if I manage to get a new set of tumblers etc from another car? I am guessing getting a new spare key is not cheap, and it does not fit the rear trunk door anyways. Is it a hard job to replace all the tumblers/locks on the W124?
Also my wiper seems to "struggle" a bit when the windscreen isn't wet enough. It works slowly. Anything to adjust, rebuild, or do I need a new wiper motor ? Work starts sunday on working my way through the car and see what needs to be done and check the electrical system as some things work occacionaly. Also a lot of electrical left over stuff from the ambulance setup which is more or less useless now. |
In US, we can take proof of ownership with vehicle identification number and get new key for $20. Ignition tumbler is $90. I never did door tumbler/lock.
Windshield wiper motor is probably worn out. It takes more time to remove all the surrounding plastic than to disassemble the wiper motor and its transmission. Might as well remove wiper motor assembly, clean, lubricate and reinstall. Maybe you'll be lucky. Search "wiper motor" for all the info you need. Bob |
Your wiper drive head probably needs lubricating before it self-destructs, this thread will show you how; http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/66429-how-grease-300e-wiper-gearbox.html ;try greasing the piston where it comes out of the drivehead first as it is probably dry.
