'95 throttle body

Can anyone tell me how to get the manifold off my '95 E320 so I can get to the throttle body and replace it? Once its off, are there any gaskets I need to replace when I put back on? I am a first time DIY and don't want any problems. Help??

The throttle actuator is under the intake manifold, and I don't think you need to remove the intake manifold to get to it.

It is fastened to the intake with 4 bolts. The is a thin paper gasket inbetween (get two, incase you tear one). You will most likely bust a rubber tube that leaves the throttle body and heads in the direction of the firewall. You might also bust another vacuum line (the hard plastic kind) make sure you have some spare rubber tubing for making the connections. Take a picture of which way the springs go.

BEFORE you take off the old one, plug in the new one, and turn on the ignition to make sure it works! (don't ask how I know to do that)

Intake Manifold does not need to be removed. Throttle actuator is accessible be removing crossover air pipe, rubber air riser tube and variable intake runner valve. (Thats the black triangle/curve shaped thing in the middle top of the black intake manifold.) pry out the rubber plugs to reveal allen bolts. Remove bolts, wiggle and pull up to remove valve. Be sure to remove electrical connector..... This should get you started, post if you need more help.....

Don't remove the intake manifold. Have a lot of patience and slowly rotate it while bringing it up through the 3rd & 4th intake tubes. It's a convoluted twisting and turning that I doubt anyone can explain. And don't expect to remember how you did it, when it's time to put it back in.

For more info search "idle speed control" (ISC) or "actuator".

While it's out, it's the ideal time to take care of a few other items while you're waiting for it to be rebuilt.

1] As Larry implies your going to find plastic tubing and rubber hoses and elbows that need replacing. If you replace the plastic tubing with rubber, keep some of the plastic tubing and use it for connectors for the rubber hose. You can get both at the dealer, but the plastic tubing is expensive.

2] An excellent time to disconnect the EGR tube and clean the manifold and tube ends.

3] Clean and lube all the throttle linkage.

4] Replace if necessary the 2 manifold breather hoses [about .75" od] in front of actuator.

Hi JM

Sorry about stepping on your post. I started mine, heard "Ferrari" on Speed, checked out a few cars being auctioned [didn't win any], returned and completed it. After it posted, I realized you had already "said that."

Did you ever fix your "95 E320 idle burble/hiccup"?
Did you swap in a goood OVP...

Bob
PS My wagon's running great, but inde says it going to need rear flex coupling and diff mounts.

Hi Bob,

No worries, I've done the same thing myself.

I've had other things on the agenda--haven't chased the idle burble problem. I have a few other things to try once I get back to it. I'll resurrect the thread then with an update post.

Whoops !!

I just realized that I was talking about my E420. A few differences, I imagine, but I can't see there being anything majorly different.
