04 CL500 Plastic Melting

Has anyone ever heard of the plastic buttons on the steering wheel turning all sticky and gatherring fluff and stuff. I have tried everything to clean it off even GooOff and all that did was take the paint off leaving me with more sticky stuff.

Ugh, sucks

I've had my steering wheel become gummed up from skin oil and dirt (I guess), but this doesn't sound like what you're describing. In my case it cleans off with soap and water.

Try posting this in the detailing section and maybe you'll get an answer faster.

I'm jealous. . . . Damn! A CL500. I test drove one a few months ago. I love that car!

I've seen this happen on a few different MB's. I don't know the reason why, but it's definitely kinda' gross. Maybe they're made of the same bio-degradable stuff as the old engine wiring harnesses. :D

I'm afraid you can't just "clean" it off...

It is actually the rubber material itself chemically breaking down and disintegrating. I've had exactly the same thing happen with the radio volume control buttons on both my 1999 E300TD and 1994 C280. I've since replaced the buttons on both radios.

If they are available as parts separate from buying the whole steering wheel itself, you'll just have to buy new buttons.
