300E front brakes
 

I haven't done my front rotors in a while and I can't remember, BUT after I remove the calipers do I have to remove the caliper mount also to get the rotors off, or can the rotors slide out from underneath the caliper mount without removing it?
If anyone can jog my memory i'll appreciate it...thanks :)

I think there is a bracket you have to take off. If I remember, at least on the early ones the pads slide into the bracket, then the caliper swings over the pads. If you look at the parts shop picture there really isn't any way to contain the pads in just the caliper itself:

It's the rear calipers that don't have a bracket, I think.

yal, the caliper mounting bracket needs to be removed so the rotor can come straight off.

I did front rotors on my W124 this summer...I don't recall doing anything beyond unbolting the calipers (two bolts per caliper) and removing the hex bolt that holds the rotor in place.

anthonyb: There are two rods (not shown in your pics) that keep the pads in place...the holes just above the piston (in the pics) is where they slide in...actually the ends are serrated and you have to tap them in (or out) when replacing pads.

I guess this all depends on what year we're are talking about. This is all pretty fuss-free on the 93 model...

Thanks guys, I believe you are right I was looking at it yesterday and it looks like the bracket (mount) will have to come off. I was hoping though :) The new ones are so much easier.

Anybody remember the bolt size for those, they look like 19mm or 20mm?

I can't think of any 20mm applications on any work i have done on our 124's... lots of 10's 13's and 19's

Ok just wanted to confirm for anyone who does a search and sees this thread.

The brackets (mounts) for the calipers do need to come off to get the front rotors off on a pre 92 W124. And the bolts are 19mm, with blue thread lock on the threads.
