transmission fluid leak............

item is an 89 300e. did a search. 53 responses to subject. unfortunately nothing registered. so here is my question......

leak, transmission fluid. i have been under vehicle, not mine, and it seems that the leak is from the rear, and if i had to guess i would say passenger side. i have in the last day or two, drained fluid, dropped pan, drained converter, replaced filter, and re-assembled using new parts. the leak seems to originate from, again, back of tranny. if i were to guess, i would say near where there appears to be an 'electrical' connection. if any of this makes sense, please respond. it will make me a hero. and owner is 'distaff type'. thank you.

most will really caution about overtightening pan... it squeezes the gasket, distorting it..

wasn't sure it it was coming from the pan area or not

only one way to see the leak. clean up the area, spray with a foot powder spray, drive, and see were the leak is. prpbably the secondary pump but you need to "know".

That is the kickdown solenoid leaking. Seen it before. Take the bolt out and replace the o-ring that is on it. Easy fix. No parts go flyin or nothin.

never ever ovetighten the pan bolts, always use a torque wrench and get them only to the specified amount. Overtightening will almost always equal a leak. Might not be your issue, check with the foot powder trick to track your leak down, but be sure to never overtighten.
