1994 W202 Clouds of exhaust
 

I've an issue with excessive exhaust that does not seem to follow what is written on the other threads.. so here goes;

1994 c280 W202, it only begins to blow out loads of smoke/condensation once the engine temperature reaches 100+ (while warming up, the exhaust seems to be a normal amount.) The smoke does not smell sweet (coolant) and it is white, not discolored. It only becomes visible when the outside temperature closes in on 32 degrees and lower. As well, I have not seen a noticeable drop in coolant levels.

The amount of exaust is not equal to other cars of it's size, it blows out enough to measure up to a fullsize diesel pickup.

Any help/thoughts appreciated. I did search the threads, but if anyone knows of something I have missed, I apologize.

what color is the smoke? I had a 1995 C220 with a blown headgasket to the point where it wouldn't start anymore (plus a cracked head). It had dumped so much coolant down into the catalysts that by the time I got it fixed and running it constantly blew out white smoke enough to fog a whole neighborhood after reaching operating temperature. Try disconnecting the exhaust from the manifold and see smoke comes out from there if you've already ruled out other issues such as a blown gasket. You've also got a problem if your car is getting up over 100C and staying there. It should read a tick over the 80C mark.

I ended up having to replace the cats to get rid of the smoke.
