I have to do the very same service on my '91 300E. May I ask what your wiper switch is doing wrong? On mine, the headlight high beam switch is shorting and cutting off my low beams unless I jiggle the switch every 3 minutes

I believe in the 124 it is on the passenger floor. I believe you will find a warning sticker there.
